CNC Manager

Our client is a dynamic, rapidly growing manufacturer and distributor located in Pittsburgh, PA.  With locations across North America, Europe, and Asia, they are a global supplier to industries, government and universities. The products and technologies are used for various research and production applications.


Demonstrate machining know-how and people skills to provide hands-on supervision of the machinists, machine operators in the setup and operation of machine tools. Directly responsible for the performance of the CNC employees on all shifts, and for safely and effectively managing people, equipment and the facility to support production needs.

  • Establish and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Develop and plan jobs by setting priority and assigning appropriate skill levels to implement processes to produce a quality product on spec and on time.
  • Communicate and implement company policies, procedures and objectives. Facilitate the flow of fact based information.
  • Recommend and implement improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures, and working conditions.
  • Establish maintenance requirements for equipment and facility in conjunction with the 5S program. Ensure timely maintenance is performed and proper records are maintained.
  • Assess employee performance, provide frequent constructive feedback to employees, and conduct performance reviews. Implement corrective and disciplinary action as warranted.
  • Identify and implement necessary personnel coaching, training and development to upgrade and maintain employee skill levels to keep pace with current and future company requirements.
  • Measure and manage productivity and the allocation of resources, including the control of overtime and hiring of personnel.
  • Review CNC mill and lathe machine part programs, tooling aids, and machine set ups to ensure optimum output from resources.
  • Maintain effective interface with other operations supervisors and other departments (i.e.; Engineering, Quality, Weld Shop, Manual & Cleaning Room) to optimize production and process improvement activity.
  • Work to continuously improve in all areas such as safety, quality, productivity, cost and employee relations.



  • Minimum of seven years of Supervisory experience
  • Minimum of five years of progressive experience in a job shop or machine shop or in a similar production / manufacturing environment.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities, be self motivated and highly organized, able to work independently and adapt in a diverse and demanding environment.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident


  • Associate's degree or certificate from Trade or Technical school
  • Journeyman papers
  • A degree in manufacturing engineering, manufacturing technology, or mechanical engineering
  • Knowledge of production scheduling and shop procedures
  • Familiarity with production/manufacturing methods and process improvements (i.e. 5S or lean manufacturing).
